Most Iconic Drinks of the Virgin Islands (And Where to Get Them)

When you’re in the perpetual summer that is the Virgin Islands, there’s nothing quite so refreshing as a cool, crisp cocktail to go with the view. So where can you go to get the most popular drinks everyone’s talking about? Read on to get a taste of the most iconic drinks of the Virgin Islands.

Rum Punch

Rum Punch is a classically
delicious drink you can find just about anywhere in the Virgin Islands.
Everyone serves their own variety, but it’s typically made of rum plus pineapple,
orange, and lime juice, with a splash of grenadine for color.

Where to get one: Get yours at the Rum Shandy, a cabana bar located just off the water in Frenchtown, St. Thomas. Enjoy the great live music at this small, great locals’ spot.

Cruzan Confusion

Made of Cruzan mango, banana, and coconut rum, plus
pineapple and orange juice, this orange colored cocktail was made popular by
country singer Kenny Chesney. The name comes from the rainbow of Cruzan Rums
that come straight from the rum distillery on nearby St. Croix.

Where to get one: High Tide in Cruz Bay, St. John. Order a Cruzan Confusion and watch the boats bob in the harbor at sunset.

Dread Fox at Foxy’s

Like most great experiences in the islands, you’ll need a boat for this one. The Dread Fox is the specialty drink of Foxy’s Tamarind Bar & Restaurant, which is located in Jost Van Dyke, BVI. The cocktail is made of Foxy’s own Firewater Rum and cranberry juice, plus lime sour mix on the rocks. Sip your signature drink in the open-air dining room and relax to the sights and sounds of the four-square-mile island of Jost Van Dyke.

Painkiller

While you’re at Jost Van Dyke, here’s another drink to try. Originating
from the British Virgin Islands, the Painkiller is arguably the most famous rum
drink of the Caribbean. Be sure to try this unforgettable blend of rum, coconut
cream, orange juice, pineapple juice, and nutmeg. A trip to the islands without
wading the waters of White Bay with a Painkiller in your hand just isn’t a trip
to the islands.

Where to get one: Although you can get a Painkiller just about anywhere in the Virgin Islands, there’s nothing like swimming up to the Soggy Dollar Bar of Jost Van Dyke, BVI, for a cold one.

Bushwacker

Part drink, part dessert, this milkshake of sorts is a great
way to cool down after a long day of salty, sandy play. What does it taste
like? Invented in St. Thomas, the Bushwacker is like a chocolate piña colada
that’s deliciously creamy. This blended drink includes coffee liqueur, cream of
coconut, dark rum, vodka, and other rich flavors, served up in a hurricane glass.

Where to get one: Beach Bar at Nanny Cay Marina, Tortola. It’s casual and beautiful, and the ocean is just steps away.
