An Inside Look at Key Spots in the Virgin Islands

Key Locations in the Virgin Islands

Our guests who travel to the Virgin Islands have come up with some pretty wide-ranging requests: Champagne and chocolates and a boat trip to a deserted island, secret snorkeling coves that only the locals know about, where to find the best painkillers of the islands, and more. But more often than not, we get asked to travel to the same popular hotspots, time and again.

That’s why each week, we’ll start to feature a different popular destination in the Virgin Islands. Read on to find out where they are, what to do, what to bring, and where to eat in each of these locales. This week, welcome to Water Island.

Honeymoon Beach, Water Island

Looking for mature palm trees galore, white sand, and crystal clear water? Honeymoon Beach on Water Island is the place to go for a full day of swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing on the beach. Located just a short boat ride away from Charlotte Amalie, this lovely beach offers an idyllic setting, surrounded by palm trees. You can easily enjoy an entire day of your vacation here.

What to Do:

Swimming & Water Sports: Honeymoon Beach has a large dedicated swimming area to enjoy a refreshing dip, so bring your swimsuit and a towel. You can also rent a paddle board, so plan to bring cash.

Relaxing: There’s good shade for relaxing – but come early to secure your spot! Chairs and umbrellas are currently available at no cost if you come early enough to get one. A restroom is available on-site. (Be sure to verify pricing and details before visiting.)

Snorkeling: Don’t forget to bring reef-safe sunscreen and snorkel gear to see some stunning marine life. Many visitors spot sea turtles, stingrays, and many varieties of fish here. Insider Tip: If you boat over in a Sonic Charters rental, your captain will provide snorkel gear for everyone!

Where to Eat:

Hungry? There are two beach bars serving food and drinks at Honeymoon Beach, so bring extra cash. And if you prefer to eat somewhere else, head over to Frenchtown for their unique range of restaurants. Be sure to check out:

  • Rum Shandy: Enjoy a festive vibe in this open-air place off the beaten path, offering great food and great drinks. Want our recommendation? Be sure to try the fish tacos!
  • The Twisted Cork CafĂ©: If wine is your drink of choice, this wine-themed restaurant should top your list. Pair your wine with some delicious comfort food, ranging from locally-caught fish to on-site grown produce.
  • Frenchtown Deli: Enjoy a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant where you can grab a tasty breakfast or lunch. This place gets full, so come early!
