Hotspots of the Virgin Islands: Secret Harbour
Each week, we’ve been showcasing hotspots of the Virgin Islands that generate the most buzz with our travelers. Because our guests want to know what other travelers love, where they go, and what they do. So whether you’ve never been to the VI, are looking for suggestions, or your travel goals have changed and you want to try something different, our Hotspots of the Virgin Islands Series is for you.
This week’s feature is for those who describe their vacation style as a bit more upper echelon, preferring to get that resort feel when they travel. They enjoy the finer things, love being treated with finesse, and get a thrill from those little extras. If that describes you, Secret Harbour is the place to go. From beachfront dining to fantastic views, white sands, shady palm trees, and a cove-protected beach, it’s the quintessential Caribbean oasis.
About this Slice of Paradise
Secret Harbour is a beautiful, cozy semi-circle beach lined with trees. Offering massage services, hammocks, and that all-out luxury resort feel, Secret Harbour Beach Resort is a great place to relax and treat yourself to a night of luxury. But more than just a resort for guests staying on the premises, the Secret Harbour Beach is also a hotspot for cruise travelers in port. There are public restrooms, rentals, and anything you need for a day trip.
Things to Do
Start by renting your gear at the on-site surf shop. The store rents loungers, umbrellas, and floats for relaxing in the sun on the white sand. You can also score snorkel gear, paddle boards, and paddle boats. Be sure to take advantage of water sports when you’re in Secret Harbour, because the water is crystal clear, with great coral reef activity. Bonus: The person working the surf shop will often give tips on where the best snorkeling is off the beach, so just ask.
Crowd Levels
Although a popular spot, Secret Harbour is often a very quiet nook if you time it just right. Falling outside the scope of the typical touristy beaches, Secret Harbour usually lives up to its elusive name.
Water Fun
Protected by its location in a cove, the water at Secret Harbour is calm. It offers great swimming for any age: families with kids, persons with limited mobility, or those who just want to relax in the water with a drink without battling rough surf.
Dining
And speaking of drinks, beach-goers can grab cocktails from the Cruzan Beach Club beach bar just before heading out to the sand. During certain seasons, a staff member will even take your order on the beach so you don’t have to move a muscle!
Also located right on site, Sunset Grille offers fine dining on the waterfront, and is well known as one of the best places on the island to have a drink and watch the sunset. Order from a steakhouse menu, with inspired twists on dishes like smoked chicken wings and seafood risotto.
